As Atlanta prepares to welcome the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Carroll Daniel | Moody Joint Venture team is proud to partner with Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to deliver critical rail station improvements across the MARTA network. These projects play a key role in preparing the city’s transit system for increased global visibility and ridership while creating lasting enhancements for the communities MARTA serves every day.

Key Station Improvements Across the MARTA System

At College Park Station, the team refreshed the main plaza areas with new architectural concrete paving, lighting, landscaping, seating, and waste receptacles, new parking lots, and cameras, completing the work in phases so passengers could continue accessing the station and parking without interruption.

At Five Points Station, where all transit lines intersect, Carroll Daniel | Moody is helping modernize the station with updated finishes modernizing the stations with new floor and wall tile, metal panel ceilings, benches, lighting, signage, painting and restoration of the historic Eiseman Facade, all carefully coordinated within MARTA’s main station hub while remaining active to the public.

At Indian Creek Station, the team constructed a new pedestrian bridge connecting to Durham Park Road, improving access for pedestrians and cyclists with a concrete walk, lighting, security cameras and benches and strengthening the station’s connection to the surrounding community. In addition, the team replaced the some of the plaza concrete paving and lighting, added new architectural paneling throughout the station, and restored the vaulted wood barrel ceiling, all while the station remained operational.

At Garnett Station, the Carroll Daniel | Moody Joint Venture completed critical platform improvements like modernizing the station with new tile floor at the platform, concourse and lower concourse levels, repairs at the existing escalators, pressure cleaning and re-sealing concrete surfaces, metal perforated panel windscreens and cladding at the roll-up doors all coordinated with MARTA. Through an approved skip-stop operation, the team safely executed work within the active rail environment, maintaining overall system functionality while delivering necessary upgrades and returning the platform to full service on schedule.

At Vine City, the team recently enhanced Vine City Station by constructing a new concrete plaza that integrates existing sidewalks and landscaping.  Key improvements featured updated LED lighting, new doors and frames, acoustical ceilings in the stairwells & escalator areas, as well as fresh paint and pressure cleaning and sealing surfaces throughout the station.

Each project reflects a shared commitment to improving rider experience, enhancing accessibility, and supporting Atlanta’s growing transit needs all while keeping service moving.

Delivering in Operational Transit Environments
Working inside active MARTA stations means construction takes place while trains are running, and patrons are moving through space daily. Service cannot stop, so projects must be carefully phased to maintain safe access and uninterrupted operations.

Work often occurs during nights or weekends, and logistics must align with rail schedules, security protocols, and the flow of patrons. These environments require elevated coordination, detailed planning, strong safety oversight, and a flexible team willing to adjust staffing and schedules to support MARTA’s primary mission.

Accelerated by a Global Deadline
The 2026 FIFA World Cup introduced firm timelines to complete infrastructure improvements across Atlanta’s transit system. With a significant increase in international visitors expected, MARTA and the City of Atlanta have been preparing to deliver a seamless, safe, and efficient experience for both residents and visitors. This global event has acted as a catalyst, pushing projects forward while aligning agencies, partners, and stakeholders around a shared goal of readiness.

Preparing for Increased Demand
To prepare for increased passenger volume, MARTA is focusing on improved station circulation, upgraded lighting and signage, enhanced pedestrian access, and modernized finishes.

Projects like the Five Points Station upgrades and the Indian Creek pedestrian bridge improve movement, safety, and accessibility throughout the system. Strategic phasing and operational coordination ensure stations can handle higher ridership while maintaining daily service.

Beyond 2026
While these projects are critical to preparing Atlanta for the global stage, their impact will extend far beyond the World Cup. Together, they represent a broader effort to create a safer, more welcoming, and more efficient transit experience for all riders.

These improvements focus on enhancing daily commutes, increasing visibility and ease of navigation, and strengthening connections between communities and opportunity. By making transit more accessible and reliable, these investments support not only visitors during the tournament, but the long-term needs of the people who rely on the system every day.

Beyond these projects, MARTA is also making systemwide investments that will continue benefiting the city. From new railcars and expanded bus service to upgraded fare technology and improved digital tools, the agency is focused on delivering a safer, more reliable, and more connected transit experience. The World Cup may be the catalyst, but the long-term result is a stronger transit system for Atlanta and the surrounding communities throughout the metropolitan areas.
