The future of construction starts with the next generation. Each year, Carroll Daniel partners with the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC Georgia) to host the Northeast Georgia Skills Challenge, where high school students put their skills to the test and explore careers in construction.

This year, more than 260 students from 22 schools came together at the Chicopee Woods Agricultural Center in Gainesville to compete in hands-on challenges across a variety of trades, with over 400 students attending to observe. The event provided an opportunity to learn more about the skilled trades and see firsthand the different career paths available within the industry.

Students competed in competitions like blueprint reading, cabinetmaking, carpentry, electrical, heavy equipment operation, HVAC, masonry, plumbing, TeamWorks, welding and welding fabrication, and broadcast news production. Beyond the competition, students connected with industry professionals through interactive activities designed to introduce them to different trades and career pathways.

The Northeast Georgia Skills Challenge is one of eight regional Skills Challenge events held across Georgia. Together, these events allow students to demonstrate their skills while exploring pathways into the construction industry, including apprenticeships, technical colleges, four-year degree programs and direct entry into the workforce.

“Introducing students to the skilled trades at an early stage is an impactful investment in the future of our industry. The Northeast Georgia Skills Challenge provides students with opportunities to explore rewarding careers, build valuable skills and see firsthand what a future in the trades can offer, helping strengthen the workforce that will carry our industry forward,” said Brian Daniel President & CEO of Carroll Daniel.

For eligible SkillsUSA Georgia members, the competition also provides an opportunity to advance to the SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Competition. Students competing in select categories can earn a bid to the statewide competition, which will be held March 11–13, 2027, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
