Extrusion and Tire Building Expansion

Carroll Daniel was selected by Continental Tire the Americas to complete a 125,000-square-foot expansion on an active tire manufacturing facility in Sumter, South Carolina. The expansion included site work, building construction, and process utilities needed for new extrusion and tire building equipment. The new extrusion and tire building equipment will provide Continental Tire with increased capacity at this site. Tires produced at the Sumter plant will help meet the increasing demand for Continental and General brand tires from both after market business and automotive manufacturers.

Working Around Operations

Working on an active plant, the project team communicated closely with the Owner to create and maintain a controlled and clean site. The team worked diligently to prevent any dirt and dust from entering the manufacturing areas — one of the biggest risks when working in a tire manufacturing facility. Process equipment needed to be installed on site prior to construction completion, which required extensive, ongoing coordination with the project team, equipment installers, and trade partners to make installation a priority while maintaining safe operations for Continental Tire.
