Work Begins at New Occupational Therapy Facility for Brenau University

Work Begins at New Occupational Therapy Facility for Brenau University at the Featherbone Communiversity in Gainesville, GA.  The facility will provide 20,000sf of much needed education space for this growing program. The building is designed around the needs of physical therapy patients of all ages. It is designed to rejuvenate patients’ in all aspects of life that are easily taken for granted. The building will house offices, lounges, labs, restrooms, classrooms, conference rooms, seminar rooms, work areas, simulation centers, and an atrium in which to gather.

The Occupational Therapy Facility will feature Adult Labs and Children’s Labs. The labs will help the staff to train patients with the use of motor skills as well as performing tasks necessary for single living. The labs include observation rooms designed for instructors to supervise  patients progress without having physical contact.

The facility also houses a Performance Lab in which a kitchen, similar to what the patient would have at home has been constructed. Under supervision the patients are able to learn to safely cook for themselves at home. A Home Teaching Bath has been constructed. The bathroom is set up just like your bathroom at home. The patients are able to learn through assistance to be self sufficient.

The facility will utilize state of the art Simulation Labs in the education curriculum. These labs train students on real-to-life dummies. The dummies are air powered and simulate a variety of medical conditions from a seizure to birthing. These labs are designed to mimic hospital rooms so that the students are able to learn about the various systems in place, while still in a controlled environment. All of the Simulation Labs have Observations Rooms with two-way mirrors for instructors.

The Occupational Therapy Facility at Brenau University will truly be a wonderful instrument in the field of Education. It provides resources to rehabilitate those in need as well as train the next generation of health care professionals all in a state of the art environment.
